India · 6 days · From USD 599
The 50-hour Yin Yoga Teacher Training at Shiva Yoga in Arambol runs for six days and five nights, with a daily schedule that starts before sunrise. Mornings begin with meditation at 6:30, followed by mantra chanting and pranayama, then a fruit and tea break. The yoga practice itself runs from 9 to 10, and after breakfast you get into the theory: adjustment and alignment, yoga philosophy, anatomy, and Ayurveda. Afternoons are for karma yoga—everyone chips in to keep the space clean—and then the main yin yoga practice and teaching practice, where you and your fellow students take turns guiding the class. Evenings end with dinner and a session of Yoga Nidra, trataka, or more teaching practice. Saturdays are given over to cleansing techniques, a workshop or outing, and extra asana work. Sundays are a full day of rest, with no meals provided, so you can explore or just sleep in.
What sets this training apart is the setting and the people. The shala is a sustainable, organic oasis surrounded by palm trees, with a garden, a meditation room, and a community kitchen. The vibe is genuinely community-focused—students describe it as a second home. It's not fancy, but the teaching is from the heart, and the value is excellent. The lead teacher, Shivayogi, is a barefoot yogi known for his free-spirited style, mixing Hatha Vinyasa, alignment, and mantra. The course is certified by Yoga Alliance, so the hours count as Continuing Education (YACEP).
Arambol itself adds a lot. It's one of the original hippie beach towns in Goa, known for its cliff sunsets, sweet water lake, and a banyan tree that's a local landmark. On your time off, you can take a sauna, do a mud bath, visit the markets, or just walk the 30 minutes to the beach. The training includes group excursions and nature hikes, so you're not just stuck in the shala all week.
This is a full-on training with a structured schedule and specific rules—quiet hours after 10 pm, no smoking or drinking, 90% attendance required. It's not a soft retreat; it's for people who want to actually learn. At the same time, the atmosphere is warm and supportive, and the food is excellent sattvic vegetarian, all included. There are only two room types: a shared dorm and a private room, both priced reasonably. You can join for the full six days or shorter if you prefer, and the course starts every Monday.
