7 Day Earth Connection Surf & Wellness Retreat in Costa Rica

The retreat is based at Cuatro Vientos, a guest complex in the heart of Malpaís, a ten-minute drive from the busier town of Santa Teresa. The property is a lush, garden-filled space with a big covered deck where yoga, meditation, and sound healing sessions take place. Rooms are spread between a main guest house and a couple of private apartments, so you can pick the setup that suits you — a private room with a shared bath in the house, a triple room with its own bathroom, or a full apartment with a kitchen and garden-view deck.

The included activities are the backbone of the week. You get three surf lessons with local instructors (boards included), four yoga classes on the deck, a 60-minute massage, a welcome rebirthing breathwork session, and a full-day boat trip to Tortuga Island with lunch. The optional menu is long — reiki, aura readings, sound baths, ATV rentals, waterfall treks, Spanish classes, fishing trips, zip-lining — and easy to tack on once you're there.

Meals are mostly on you. Breakfast is included at La Esquinita, a homely coffee house 40 meters away, and the kitchen at the complex is fully equipped for cooking lunch and dinner. The team gives you a list of good local spots and a few discounts, so eating well in Malpaís is easy and affordable.

The setting is a big part of the draw. Malpaís is a quieter, more bohemian cousin of Santa Teresa, with a beach that's perfect for long walks and sunset views. The surrounding area is packed with nature — Cabo Blanco Reserve is close by, and you might spot monkeys, iguanas, and whales in season. The whole vibe is Pura Vida: unhurried, friendly, and close to the earth.
