Home › Retreats › 7 Day Surf & Yoga Escape on Lanzarote's Wild North Coast
Canary Islands · 7 days · From USD 570
The retreat runs five days of surf instruction, five hours a day, with mornings spent at the beach and afternoons flexible. You'll be split into small groups based on your level, so whether you've never stood on a board or you're chasing a better cutback, the coaching is genuinely tailored. Instruction is practical and theoretical, conducted by certified instructors, and the school is an official surf school of the Canary Islands Surf Association, so you get a certificate of the level you reach. Wetsuit, board, and rash vest are all provided—you just need to show up.
Yoga happens every evening at the school's studio, which has big windows overlooking the village and mountains. The style varies daily, pulling from Hatha, Vinyasa, Kundalini, and yoga nidra, and it's designed to support your surfing: breathwork, core strength for your back and shoulders, and plenty of stretching. Wednesday's class is yoga nidra with live Tibetan bowls, and the sunset slot makes it the perfect wind-down after a day in the water. All levels are welcome and the teacher adapts the session to whoever shows up.
The surf houses are the heart of the social side. They sit side by side, a 15-meter walk across the dunes to the beach, and 50 meters from the village's bars, restaurants, and grocery stores. There are dorms and private rooms, with a shared kitchen and living space that encourages hanging out. Expect to cook dinner with new friends, trade surf stories, and wander into the village for fresh seafood or mojo sauce-drenched tapas.
Location-wise, you're in a natural reserve, which means empty beaches, protected coastline, and starry skies. The village itself is small and safe, with a handful of places to eat and drink. The bigger island attractions—Timanfaya volcano park, the green lagoon at El Golfo, the wineries of La Geria—are within a 30-40 minute drive if you hire a car, which is often cheaper than a transfer.
The team behind it is Lanzasurf, run by Evandro, a Brazilian surf coach with deep local roots, and Dejan, a Slovenian who learned to surf here under Evandro and stayed. Their enthusiasm is infectious, and they're known for making guests feel looked after, both in and out of the water.
