7-Day Tai Chi & Martial Arts Wellness Retreat in China

China · 7 days · From USD 270

This retreat is run by a serious martial arts school that has been teaching for over ten years. The person leading it, Shen Jiangfei, is a rare master who teaches both Liuhe Quan (a traditional northern style) and Chen-style Tai Chi. He grew up in a martial arts family and has spent decades perfecting both forms. His teaching is patient and personal — guests mention that he cares for each student as a whole person and builds a clear daily plan for everyone. The training space itself is a renovated old courtyard, which guests describe as breathtakingly beautiful and a fitting backdrop for the work you're doing.

The daily schedule is built around two martial arts sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Between them, you'll have lectures or activities that cover Chinese culture, traditional Chinese medicine, and the Taoist ideas that Tai Chi is tied to. You're not just learning movements — you're learning where they came from and why they work the way they do. Master Shen focuses on real skill: how to read an opponent's strength, how to stay relaxed under pressure, and how the body works in a fight. That's a side of Tai Chi that a lot of classes skip entirely.

Beyond the training, the surrounding area has plenty to see. You'll go on hikes, visit cultural sites like Wu Mosquito Village, and spend time in the Longhushan Scenic Area, which is famous for its Taoist history. The experience is immersive — you're staying in a Taoist-themed boutique hotel right by the mountain, and even your free time tends to be filled with history, good food, and conversations with people from around the world. It's a very hands-on, real China experience rather than a touristy one.
