7 Day Yoga and Surf Wellness Escape in Costa Rica

The Recharge Retreat is built around giving you space to do your own thing while still having the bones of a good retreat — daily yoga, good food, simple comfortable rooms, and access to the whole property. You can join the scheduled classes and excursions, or you can largely keep to yourself. The hosts know some people want to lounge and read while others want to get out and do things, so they've kept the schedule light and everything else available 'a la carte'.

A typical day includes three meals made from fresh, mostly organic, locally sourced produce, a yoga class, and plenty of time for surfing or paddleboarding. There's a group activity or two built into the week, like the zip-line adventure and the hike to Mirador, plus a 60-minute massage for each guest. The group size is small — between 1 and 14 people — so you get a personal feel, and the daily classes are taught by a small team of instructors.

The yoga teachers include Ale, a Costa Rican native who trained extensively in India in Ashtanga Vinyasa and Iyengar yoga, and Cecile, who got her 200-hour certification in Guatemala and now lives in Costa Rica. Classes run daily, including three evening sessions a week. The styles and skill levels vary, but the retreat is open to beginners through advanced practitioners.

The property itself is a longtime fixture — founded by Alejandro and Rose in 2002, it was one of the first yoga retreat centers on Costa Rica's Pacific coast. Today it's an eco-resort that also runs surf camps and mountain bike adventures, with a real connection to the local community through projects like reforestation and kids' programs. What stands out is how grounded it all feels, like a place that's been doing this for a long time and has the details figured out without being fussy.
