Home › Retreats › 8-Day Yoga & Mindfulness Retreat in Tenerife's Volcanic South
Tenerife · 8 days · From EUR 1466
The retreat is based at La Malvasía, a stone-and-wood house built beside a vineyard in Arico Viejo, about twenty minutes from Tenerife South Airport and eight minutes from the sea. The property has a heated infinity pool, gardens, sunbathing areas and direct access to the old royal footpaths (caminos reales) that crisscross this part of the island. It's quiet — the nearest village is tiny, and the landscape around it is volcanic and dry, with the ocean close by.
Each day starts with yoga and meditation at 8am, followed by a vegetarian breakfast at 10. From 11am you're free: rest, swim, walk into town, book a massage, or head to the beach at El Porís, a small fishing village with clear water and sand. Early afternoon brings a workshop — hypnotic meditation on gratitude, a session on forgiveness, an authentic relating workshop, or a dance journey through emotions. Several afternoons are given over to excursions instead: a hike and picnic in the Arico National Reserve's pine forest, a walk to the hidden swimming cove at Montaña Pelada, or a trip through the Malpaís de Rasca badlands. Evenings close with Yin yoga, mantra chanting, breathwork or a fire circle, then dinner at 7:30pm.
What separates this from a standard yoga week is the psychological thread running through it. Aday and Ricardo both work as therapists, and the programme mixes yogic practice with modern psychology, hypnotherapy and creative movement. You'll do guided meditations on abundance, the 'future self' and emotional detox, and there's space for one-to-one conversation if you want it. It's structured but not rigid — the free afternoons are genuinely free.
Aday is a psychologist and yoga teacher with Ayurvedic therapy training from India. Ricardo is a Tenerife-born psychotherapist and coach whose work draws on mindfulness, Tantric philosophy and emotional intelligence. They've studied human development and spiritual awakening together for two decades and teach in English, with Spanish also spoken. Groups are capped at twelve, which keeps the atmosphere close and informal — meals are eaten together, and the evening fire sessions tend to run long.
The location does a lot of the work. Southern Tenerife is volcanic, arid and dramatically empty once you leave the resort strip. You're within reach of the Arico National Reserve's pine forests, the coastal badlands of Malpaís de Rasca, the natural spring at El Porís that locals treat as a pilgrimage site, and several swimming spots that only locals use. Airport transfers are included, and seven nights' accommodation with three vegetarian meals a day are part of the package.
