Home › Retreats › 9-Day New Year Yoga and Sahara Desert Adventure in Morocco
Marrakech · 9 days · From USD 1750
The retreat begins in Marrakech, where you'll stay in a traditional riad and spend the first day getting your bearings—walking the Jemaa el-Fna square, visiting the Koutoubia Mosque, and later sitting down to a welcome dinner. Day two is a guided tour of the city's highlights: Bahia Palace, Saadian Tombs, Ben Youssef Madrasa, plus time in the souks. You'll have a vinyasa class in the morning and another yoga session in the afternoon, so the sightseeing never leaves the practice behind.
From Marrakech you cross the High Atlas through the Tizi n'Tichka pass, stopping at Telouet Kasbah and then the famous UNESCO site of Ait Ben Haddou—the clay ksar you've probably seen in films. The route continues through Ouarzazate, the Dades Valley, and the Valley of Roses before reaching Merzouga, where the Erg Chebbi dunes start. On day five you swap the van for a camel and trek into the desert, arriving at camp in time for sunset, with a Berber dinner, live music, and storytelling around the fire.
Days in the desert are slower. You'll do a bit of fossil hunting, visit nomads for tea, try local pizza, listen to Gnawa music, and take a yin yoga class. There's also a trip to Rissani and its mausoleum. Then it's a long drive back to Ouarzazate and Marrakech, with stops in the Draa Valley, and a final morning back in the city for a closing circle with cacao before your flight home.
What makes this different from a standard Morocco tour is the small group, the daily practice, and Daniela's presence. She tailors classes to the group's level and to the moment—energetic vinyasa in the morning, more restorative yin after a long drive. The local team she works with handles the logistics, so you're not worrying about transfers or tickets; you just follow the schedule and show up for class.
