Home › Retreats › 9-Day Yoga and Wellness Escape at Villa My Way, Ahangama, Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka · 9 days · From USD 800
Villa My Way has been running retreats since 2014, and the current team, led by Igor and Dr. Michelle Mars, has created a space that feels both luxurious and homey. The property is a collection of private bungalows set in lush gardens, with a large swimming pool, two lounge zones, and a yoga shala. Each bungalow has its own bathroom, a terrace, and either air conditioning or ceiling fans. The design is open and airy, with views over the garden from every room.
The yoga program is the core of the retreat. There are two classes a day, at 7am and 5pm, each lasting about 90 minutes. Dr. Michelle teaches Ashtanga-style classes, and her approach is mindful and inclusive, welcoming students of all levels. On some days, visiting teachers like Gillian lead Vinyasa or Yin classes, and the schedule can vary. Evening sessions sometimes include fascia yoga or meditation, by arrangement. The classes are held in the open-sided yoga shala, so you practice with the sound of birds and the rustle of palm leaves.
Food is another highlight. The kitchen serves a vegetarian menu with fresh seafood options, using local ingredients and Sri Lankan spices. Breakfast and dinner are included daily, with a set menu that changes through the week. Lunch is not included, which gives you the chance to explore the cafes and beach shacks of Ahangama, or have a packed lunch arranged for a small fee.
Beyond yoga and meals, the retreat is a base for exploring the south coast. The team can organise surf lessons, trips to Galle Fort, tea plantation visits, cooking classes, and wildlife safaris. You can also just stay by the pool with a book, which is what many guests end up doing. The atmosphere is relaxed and small-scale, with space for both privacy and socializing with other guests.
The optional add-ons set this retreat apart. Dr. Michelle is a trauma specialist and offers confidential psychotherapy sessions, which have been life-changing for some guests. There's also a pool of massage therapists offering 60-minute treatments, and Ayurvedic wellness options. These are all tailored to your needs and can be booked during your stay.
