Home › Indonesia › A Week of Yoga, Rice Fields and Balinese Cooking in Ubud
Indonesia · 7 days · From EUR 350 (indicative)
Days are built around two yoga sessions, morning and later in the day, with three vegetarian meals in between. The classes run across a range of levels, from gentle to more challenging, and you can drop a class if you need to. Most guests are complete beginners or people coming back to practice after a long break, so nobody is expected to arrive with an advanced practice.
Once during the week there's a Balinese cooking class, and the schedule includes some cultural outings around Ubud. A one-hour Balinese massage is part of the package too. Free afternoons leave time to walk the 20 minutes into central Ubud for the market, a café or a temple.
The property has 15 rooms and caps guests at 20, which keeps the group small enough that you actually meet everyone. Most guests travel solo. Because the week runs Sunday to Saturday with everyone arriving and leaving on the same days, the group forms quickly.
The setting is the village of Bentuyung Sakti, inland from the beach clubs of south Bali, surrounded by rice terraces, rivers and villages where daily offerings are still made on every doorstep. The pool faces out over the rice fields. Bali's airport is roughly an hour and a half's drive away, with direct flights from Australia, Singapore, KL, Dubai and Doha.
Ubud has more retreats and more experienced teachers than anywhere else in Indonesia, which is why most people looking for a yoga week in the country end up here rather than in Lombok, Java, Sumba or Flores. The dry season generally runs April to October, though Ubud is pleasant year round; the rainy season usually brings short afternoon showers rather than days of rain, and the rice fields are at their greenest then.
