Advanced 300-Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Mysore, India

India · 29 days · From USD 901

This is not a gentle wellness retreat. It's a full 300-hour teacher training with seven to eight hours of practice and study every day, designed for people who already have their 200-hour certificate and a solid practice behind them. The core of the training is Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga as taught in the Mysore tradition, the style that T.N. Krishnamacharya developed and popularised here. You'll do dynamic practice with breath and bandha coordination, working through the primary, intermediate, and advanced series.

Beyond the Ashtanga practice, the syllabus is remarkably broad. You'll study advanced pranayama with breath retention and bandhas, learn a range of mudras including the Gayatri mudra, and work through the shat kriyas—the six traditional detox techniques like advanced kapalabhati, jala neti, and nauli. There are dedicated blocks on yoga therapy covering everything from chronic back pain to diabetes, prenatal and postnatal yoga, chakras and their healing techniques, and a guided study of chakras with mantras and colours.

Anatomy is taught by Dr. Aparna, and philosophy covers Patanjali's yoga sutras alongside basics of Ayurveda and the karma, bhakti, and jnana yoga paths. There's also a partner or acro yoga component, which is more entertaining than the rest but still teaches you practical skills for leading partner classes. Evenings often include satsanga, chanting, or meditation.

What sets this training apart from similar ones is the direct connection to Mysore's yoga heritage, the very broad curriculum that includes yoga therapy and prenatal, and the founder's own background. Yogacharya Santhosh Kumar trained under B.K.S. Iyengar in Pune, under Dr. R. Pai in Dharamsala, and has since certified over 700 teachers from more than 65 countries. You also have the option to stay an extra two weeks for an unpaid internship, assisting in live classes and learning the subtler points of teaching, and the schedule leaves some afternoons and most of Sunday free for rest and self-study.

The setting in Mysore, India, adds to the experience. Known as the City of Palaces, it's a city that takes its yoga seriously, and the school sits in the Gokulam neighbourhood, where much of the city's yoga scene is concentrated. The accommodation is simple and private, meals are healthy vegetarian food served three times a day, and the overall atmosphere is focused and traditional rather than luxurious.
