Amalfi Coast Yoga and Cuisine Week: Cliffside Walks, Boat Trips and Pizza Making in Praiano

Amalfi Coast · 6 days

Mornings begin with yoga, typically on a terrace with the sea in front of you and Capri on the horizon. Sessions are led by the trip's yoga instructor and run around 60 to 90 minutes, with a mix of flow and gentler work depending on who's in the room. After class there's breakfast at the hotel, then the day opens out into either an excursion or free time before the afternoon activity.

The excursions are what make this week distinctive. There's a guided walk along the coastal paths above Praiano, which is where you get the views the guidebooks promise — the fertile cliffs are terraced and planted, and the path takes you past lemon groves and old watchtowers. There's a visit to a working lemon farm and a local winery, where you taste the area's limoncello and wine. One day is given over to a boat trip along the coast to Positano, skimming past the cliffs and the pastel houses stacked above the water. There's also a hands-on cooking class where you make pizza and hand-rolled pasta, including ravioli, then eat what you've made.

In between there are spa treatments available, time by the hotel pool, and afternoons where you can walk down to the beach. The beaches here are pebbled rather than sandy, and the water is clear — the sort of swimming you do and then sit in the sun to dry off. The town itself is small and quiet, with a handful of restaurants and bars, and it's a good place to wander in the early evening before dinner.

Meals are centred on what the region does well: fresh seafood, tomatoes, olive oil, mozzarella, lemons, pasta and wine. Breakfast is at the hotel each day, and group dinners are built into the schedule, including meals connected to the cooking class and the winery visit. Vegetarian options are straightforward here; other dietary requirements are worth flagging at booking.

The retreat is run by a long-established retreat company with a regular roster of guides and instructors, and this particular trip has been running annually for years. Guests often return for a second or third location with the same team, which says something about how the weeks are put together — the detail is in the logistics, and the pace is planned so that nobody feels rushed or stranded. It suits people who want yoga and good food but also want to actually see and eat their way around the place they've flown to.
