Home › Retreats › Andean Adventure Trek to Machu Picchu via Lares Valley
Peru · 4 days · From USD 468
The trek starts in Cusco with a private van ride to Huaran, where you meet your horsemen and horses. Day one is a gentle three-and-a-half-hour walk up to Cancha Cancha, an isolated community that only got electricity in 2019. You have afternoon tea, visit a local family, and learn about the Inca constellations after dinner. Day two is the hardest: a seven-hour climb over Pachacutec Pass at 4,500 meters, with views of glaciers and remote lakes. You descend past the seven waterfalls to the Quiswarani campsite. Day three is the most scenic, crossing Willqaqasa Pass and dropping through Puna grasslands to the Cuncani community, where you may visit the school. A private van takes you to the Lares hot springs for an hour of soaking, then on to Ollantaytambo for the train to Aguas Calientes. On the final day, you take the first bus up to Machu Picchu for a two-hour guided tour at sunrise, then return to Cusco by train and van in the evening.
