Arctic Island Yoga & Adventure Retreat in Norway

Arctic Island Yoga & Adventure Retreat in Norway

Norway · 6 days · From EUR 4000

Manshausen is owned by Norwegian explorer Børge Ousland, and the architecture shows it — timber and glass cabins built right at the waterline, with nothing between you and the Lofoten fjord. There are no roads on the island, so everything moves by boat. The days are structured but not packed: yoga in the morning, an activity in the middle of the day, dinner in the evening, and long stretches of open time in between for reading, journaling, or sitting in the sauna watching the light change.

The kayaking is a half-day trip through the fjord with a local guide. Drysuits, kayaks, warm drinks and lunch are provided, and no previous kayaking experience is needed — this is flat, sheltered water. The hike to Resshola Cave is a 2–3 hour round trip starting from Oksholmen on the north edge of Nordskot, climbing through woodland to a cave that goes 140m into the mountain. You get lunch packs and hot drinks on both outings.

Yoga is led by Nina, who teaches a flowing, accessible style and has been running these retreats for years. Classes are twice daily — a more active morning session and a restorative evening one — and they're open to all levels, including people who have never done yoga before. If you'd rather do your own thing, the yoga is optional and the whole retreat can run self-guided with the logistics handled for you.

What makes this different from a standard yoga retreat is the setting and the access. You're on a private island in the Arctic Circle, and the only other people there are the lodge staff and whoever you've come with. The sauna sits right on the water, so you can go from hot to cold in a few steps. And because the retreat is customizable, you can choose dates that line up with either the midnight sun, the Northern Lights, or the 'Arctic blue' dusk light of October.

Rates are all-inclusive and cover accommodation, all meals, yoga, both guided excursions, sauna, and all boat transfers from Bodø. Cabins sleep one or two, and there are also towers that sleep the same number at a higher rate. The main cabin has a queen bed with the big glass view, plus a second small room with bunk beds — worth knowing if you're two friends sharing, since the bunk room doesn't have the same floor-to-ceiling windows.
