Ashtanga Yoga and Beach Reset in Da Nang, Vietnam

Ashtanga Yoga and Beach Reset in Da Nang, Vietnam

Vietnam · 8 days · From USD 1800

Most days are split in two. Morning practice runs 05:30–07:30, breakfast is 08:00–10:00, and then you have the long middle of the day free until the afternoon session at 17:00–19:00. The afternoon slot is part workshop, part practice — breathing technique, meditation, alignment work or hands-on adjustments depending on the day. Dinner is at 19:00. It's an early start if you're not used to it, but it means you finish the day's work before most people have had their first coffee, and the heat of the day is free for the beach or the pool.

With a maximum of 10 people, Huong can actually watch everyone. She gives individual corrections and adjustments in the Mysore style she trained in, and the small group means beginners aren't left to copy the person in front. She'll also talk through how to keep a home practice going — what to do on the days you don't have two hours, how to work around a stiff lower back, that sort of thing. If you've been put off by retreats where you feel like the least experienced person in the room, this one is built the other way round.

The hotel is a genuine five-star property, not a retreat centre with yoga mats in a corridor. The infinity pool is on the 25th-floor rooftop with a view over the city and the coastline, and there's a gym if you want to keep lifting while you're away. Danang itself is worth a day — the Dragon Bridge breathes fire on weekend evenings, the Cham sculpture museum is a 20-minute ride away, and Hoi An, the old trading town with the lanterns and tailors, is close enough for the included excursion. The retreat is also open to non-residents who just want the yoga without the room and meals — you'd email Huong directly for that.

The yoga here is Ashtanga, which means structure. You'll do sun salutations, standing postures, some of the primary series, and the closing sequence, with pranayama and meditation worked in across the week. It's a physically demanding practice if you push it, but Huong teaches to the person in front of her, so you can take it at the pace your body allows. Expect to be sore in the legs on day two and noticeably more open by day five. The week ends after breakfast on July 11.
