Ayurveda Detox & Yoga Retreat in Gozo, Malta – Sea-View Wellness Escape

Ayurveda Detox & Yoga Retreat in Gozo, Malta – Sea-View Wellness Escape

Malta · 7 days · From EUR 399

The retreat runs out of a property in a particularly quiet corner of Gozo, with views out to the sea. Guests stay on site, and the day revolves around the treatment room. You'll have an initial consultation to work out what your body actually needs, then Arun or Maya build a treatment schedule around that – usually one main therapy per day, drawn from a long list that includes Abhyangam (full-body warm oil massage), Pizhichil (a continuous stream of warm herbal oil poured over the body, often called the 'royal oil bath'), Elakizhi and Podikizhi (herbal leaf or powder bundles pressed warm onto the body), Njavara Kizhi (rice bundle therapy), Kativasti (warm oil held over the lower back for spine issues), Udvarthanam (herbal powder massage), Dhara, Marma point work, Nasyam, and Indian head massage.

Most packages also include daily yoga, and the longer programmes layer in food that's matched to the cleanse – kitchari, herbal teas, light cooked vegetables, and lighter meals as the programme progresses. The 6-night juice fasting option replaces some meals with juices and broths. Nothing here is aggressive or punishing; the marketing language leans towards gentle, gradual change, which matches how Ayurveda is normally practised – slow, repeated treatments rather than one big intervention.

This is different from a big resort spa because of the scale. It's essentially a two-person therapy team taking a small number of guests at a time, which means the treatments are actually tailored rather than picked from a menu. The 7-night Rejuvenation retreat is pitched at chronic stress, exhaustion and sleep problems; the Stress Detox package is more focused on burnout; the Female Balance and Menopause Reset programmes are built specifically around hormonal transitions and would suit women going through perimenopause or menopause who want something more structured than a general spa break.

Gozo is a small island – about 14km by 7km – with a population of around 30,000. It's known for the Citadel in Victoria, the diving at Dwejra, the salt pans at Xwejni, and the Ġgantija temples, which are older than the pyramids. There are swimming spots, coastal walks, and some good small restaurants, but it's not a party island. That's the point: most guests come here to sleep, eat well, get massaged, and walk by the sea.

Arrival is usually by ferry from Malta (Ċirkewwa to Mġarr, about 25 minutes) followed by a short drive to the retreat. Flights land at Malta International Airport. The whole trip is easy from most of Europe – under three hours from London, under two from Rome.
