Sri Lanka · 7 days · From USD 1292
The retreat at Rekawa runs on a simple loop: consult, treat, practice, eat, rest. On arrival you meet the in-house Ayurvedic doctor, who uses traditional pulse-checking to assess your physical and emotional state. That consultation shapes everything that follows — the doctor and therapists build a daily schedule of three to four Ayurvedic therapies, which might include massages, shirodhara (warm oil poured over the forehead), herbal baths, and acupuncture, alongside herbal medicine.
Movement and mindfulness are built into the day twice over. Mornings start with yoga as the sun comes up, and evenings close with a sunset practice, with breathwork and meditation woven in. A visiting Buddhist monk often leads these sessions and offers Dhamma talks — a chance to actually engage with the Buddhist culture this part of Sri Lanka is steeped in, rather than just doing a yoga class in a nice room.
The setting does a lot of the work. The resort sits between a peaceful lagoon and a protected beach where sea turtles nest, so you're never far from the sound of waves or the sight of these animals coming ashore. The design is temple-inspired, with an open-air yoga shala, a saltwater swimming pool, and dedicated spaces for sound healing and breathwork. It's deliberately minimal — no TVs, no in-room coffee machines — because the point is to step away from the usual noise.
Rekawa is the sister property of Sen Wellness Sanctuary, a well-known retreat nearby, and was set up to make that kind of authentic Ayurvedic care more accessible. The food follows the same principle: seasonal, organic, mostly vegetarian Sri Lankan cooking, with a few fish options, served at fixed family-style mealtimes. No heavy meats, no processed filler — just straightforward, flavorful food meant to support digestion and energy.
