Indonesia · 7 days · From USD 1200
Villa Gaia has 8 bedrooms, so groups stay small enough that you'll know everyone by day two. The property includes an on-site massage room, a far infrared sauna, a soft hot tub jacuzzi, a chlorine-free pool with sun-loungers, and a semi-open dining area facing the rice terraces. Marble and teak throughout — it's a comfortable villa, not a bare-bones ashram.
The signature programme is the detox and yoga retreat, offered in light and deep cleanse versions. You choose how hard you want to go. Alongside that, the centre runs Transcendental Meditation courses — TM is taught here as a standalone technique for stress, blood pressure and sleep, and it's open to complete beginners.
What separates this from a generic Bali yoga week is the clinical side. There's a separate Gaia Holistic Wellness clinic in Ubud town, about 10 minutes from the villa, staffed by three registered nurses with colonic facilities and additional therapy rooms. If you're doing a deep cleanse, that's where the more involved treatments happen.
Ubud itself is a 15-minute walk. Markets, Balinese warungs, spas, yoga studios and a large number of plant-based restaurants are all reachable on foot. Most guests mix structured retreat time with afternoons in town.
The centre also rents the villa to outside teachers for retreats, workshops and 200-hour yoga teacher trainings, so depending on your dates you may be sharing the space with a teacher-training group. Ashtanga, authentic relating and plant-based/raw food chef trainings are among the programmes that run here.
