Rio de Janeiro · 6 days · From BRL 4000 (indicative)
A typical day starts with a 90-minute class at 08:00, mixing Hatha yoga and beginner-friendly Ashtanga Vinyasa. Breakfast follows at 09:30, and by 10:30 you are on your way to the beaches. The tour takes in Geribá, Ferradurinha, Azeda, Brava and Forno, and you are back for lunch at 14:00.
The gap between lunch and the 17:00 class is yours. The pool is on site, and Praia Rasa is 300 metres from the door. The evening class runs until 18:30 and combines yoga, pranayama and meditation. Classes also include guided Yoga Nidra, a long relaxation lying down. Dinner runs from 20:00 to 21:00.
One day of the week goes to a boat trip. The Ayahuasca version of the programme lists it as a trip around Arraial do Cabo, with stops at Ilha do Farol, Gruta Azul and Praia do Forno. You also get one private therapy session, choosing between Chinese massage, Reiki and Access Bars.
What sets this week apart from many yoga holidays is how long the teacher has been in one place. Claudia opened her first yogashala in 2001 at her original guesthouse on Praia da Ferradura, then moved to Praia Rasa in 2005, where she lives. She has hosted visiting Ashtanga teachers over the years and co-founded Yoga no Píer, a free monthly class on the pier at Porto da Barra in Manguinhos.
The guesthouse is at Rua Almirante Juritis 12 in Praia Rasa, 10 minutes from Geribá and 15 minutes from Rua das Pedras, the main strip in the centre of Búzios. It has spacious suites, an outdoor pool and a yoga shala on the property.
The Ayahuasca version follows a similar routine, with a 19:30 meditation and a different beach list that includes Praia dos Ossos, João Fernandes, Forno and Ferradura. It adds a ceremony led by experienced facilitators, in which participants drink a tea made from an Amazonian vine and leaf. The page does not describe any medical screening, so anyone considering this version should ask the operator about it and speak to a doctor first. Ayahuasca can interact dangerously with some medications, including certain antidepressants.
