Beachfront Yoga Retreat on Koh Phangan: Daily Sadhana & Meditation

Koh Phangan · 7 days

One Yoga sits on its own stretch of white sand on Koh Phangan, an island in the Gulf of Thailand that has been a yoga destination for decades. The campus is self-contained: bungalows, three yoga shalas, a meditation hall, a therapy room, a dining area and lounge, and a private beach. You check in, unpack, and everything for the week is within a two-minute walk.

The Yoga Sadhana retreat runs weekly and is built around two daily asana sessions plus meditation and pranayama. A typical morning starts with a 90-minute vinyasa class in the Ocean Shala — a wooden hall with a full-width window facing the sea and a tall palapa roof with ceiling fans. After a vegetarian breakfast buffet, you go into technique or workshop sessions covering alignment, breath work, or specific families of poses. Late afternoon brings a gentler yin or restorative class, often in the Beach Shala, which is built out over the water on the resort's secluded bay.

The teaching style is grounded in classical hatha and vinyasa, with the meditation component drawn from Buddhist insight practice. Teachers are long-tenured — several have been with One Yoga for years and run the school's 200-hour and 300-hour teacher trainings on the same campus. That matters if you're using the week to build toward a training: the rooms, the shalas and much of the teaching team are the same ones you'd meet on the TTC.

What separates this from other Thai yoga weeks is the campus itself. Sky Shala sits at the highest point of the property with a 180° view over the jungle, the Ang Thong islands and Koh Samui. The Beach Shala is literally over the bay. The Meditation Hall has floor-to-ceiling windows looking onto the garden and sea, air conditioning, and proper cushions. You are not sharing a converted hotel ballroom with a conference group.

Food is vegetarian and vegan only, cooked by an in-house kitchen team drawing on Thai, Indian and Western recipes — fruit and vegetable buffets at breakfast and lunch, with smoothies and juices available. The chef will cater to specific dietary requirements if you tell them in advance. Evenings are free; some people eat in the village at Sri Thanu or Thong Sala, others stay on campus and turn in early.

Off the mat there is a private beach with loungers and shade from palms, warm enough for swimming most of the year. The therapy room offers massage, and the island's dive shops, night market and waterfalls are a short scooter or songthaew ride away. Most guests fly into Koh Samui and take the ferry across, or fly directly to Koh Phangan's smaller airport.
