Home › Retreats › Breathwork Retreat in the Bolivian Andes: 11-Day Andean Vision Journey
Europe · 11 days · From EUR 2670
The retreat opens in Bolivia at high altitude, and the first day is mostly about arrival and acclimatisation. You'll meet the facilitator team, settle into your accommodation, and do a short introductory circle where the basic breath mechanics are explained. Nothing intense on day one — the Andes don't let you rush. By day two and three, you're into full hours of guided breathing practice, usually split between a morning session and a late afternoon one, with the middle of the day left open for walking, resting, or reading. The breathing work is not just sitting cross-legged. You'll be doing standing practices, walking meditations on hillsides, and paired exercises with other guests.
What makes this one different from a standard pranayama retreat is the source material. The techniques are drawn specifically from Andean indigenous traditions, and the facilitators teach them alongside the cultural context — why the lake matters, how the sky and ground energies are understood locally, and what these practices have meant to the people who live here for centuries. You won't just be told to 'inhale for four counts'. You'll be shown how the breath of the sun is meant to feel, and what the breath of the mountain is supposed to do. The trip includes a multi-day excursion to the Island of the Sun, where the group stays overnight and works on the breath of time practice. Boat crossings, hill walks, and visits to sacred sites are all built into the schedule.
The facilitator team comes from the Center of the Conscious Dream, an organisation based in Mexico that runs similar shamanic and conscious-dreaming retreats in the Toltec, Huichol and Mixteca traditions. They aren't Andean locals themselves, but they've been running these Bolivia retreats long enough to have established relationships with local guides and communities. The retreat is run in English, and group sizes stay small enough that the breathing sessions are hands-on rather than lecture-style. Outside of the structured sessions, there's plenty of empty time — walks to viewpoints, journaling, and meals taken together as a group. The retreat is 11 days long, and by the final few days most people find they can walk uphill without gasping, which is a small victory you'll actually notice.
