United States · 6 days · From USD 1619
Burnout isn't just tiredness—it's chronic stress that has left your nervous system dysregulated and your body depleted. This retreat addresses that directly with daily meditation, yoga in multiple styles, nature immersion, and plenty of rest. Mornings start with meditation by the river, where you sit before the day's demands begin. Twice-daily yoga classes offer a range of styles—Ashtanga, Hatha, Restorative, Yin, Kundalini, and Nidra—so you can match your energy on any given day. Donna Davidge, who has taught since 1985, leads the practice and adapts it to your level, whether you're a beginner or advanced.
The historic setting is part of the healing. Sewall House was built in 1865 and is on the National Historic Registry. Donna's great-grandfather, William Sewall, taught Theodore Roosevelt about nature's healing power here, and that legacy continues. The house has a wrap-around porch overlooking the river, and the surrounding area offers kayaking, hiking, biking, and quiet spots to rest. The complimentary sauna helps release deep muscle tension, and the small group size—just two to eight guests—means you're part of a supportive community, not a crowded retreat center.
The program is flexible. You can arrive any day and stay as long as you like, though 4-5 nights is the suggested minimum, and six or more days is recommended for a deeper nervous system reset. Each day follows a loose rhythm: morning meditation, a yoga class, breakfast, free time with optional activities, lunch, afternoon rest or sauna, an evening yoga class, and dinner. The structure is there, but you can take it at your own pace. Sundays feature Yoga Nidra or Svaroopa yoga, a slow class designed to open the spine and release deep tension.
Donna has been running retreats at Sewall House since 1997. She's a 500 E-RYT certified teacher with a master's degree in nutrition, and she's taught tens of thousands of hours of yoga. She's supported countless people through life transitions, from work stress to relationship changes to health challenges. Ajeet, another teacher on the team, specializes in Kundalini yoga and meditation, adding another layer of depth to the experience. Together, they create a space where you feel cared for, not pushed.
