Cantabria Surf & Yoga Adventure: An Active Week on Spain's Green Coast

Spain · 6 days · From EUR 299

The camp runs on a simple rhythm: wake up, eat breakfast, surf, eat lunch, surf again or rest, then something easy in the evening. Surf lessons are 90 minutes each and you get five of them across the week, plus a theory session covering water safety, surf etiquette and how to read waves. Groups are split by level — complete beginners stay in the whitewash on soft-tops, intermediates and advanced surfers head to faster peaks with the coaches. All equipment, including wetsuits and boards, is included for lessons.

Instructors are certified through ISA, ASI, SGB or FCS, and they're also qualified lifeguards (SLSGB). They get in the water with you rather than shouting from the beach. That matters on a stretch of coast where the swell can pick up quickly and rips are common — you're never left to figure it out alone.

Accommodation is on-site at the camp in Oyambre. You choose between a bell tent, a tipi tent or a mobile home; all are set up before you arrive, with beds and bedding provided in the tents. Bathrooms are shared and there's a communal kitchen and dining area. It's comfortable but firmly camp-style — think sleeping bags and starlight, not hotel turndown service. The camp is inside a protected nature reserve, so it's quiet at night apart from the sea.

Evenings are when the camp comes together. There's usually a barbecue night, a beach bonfire if the weather allows, yoga sessions on the deck, and a volleyball net that gets a lot of use. Some nights there's live music. On your free day you can stay and surf, hire a bike, walk the cliffs of the natural park, or take an organised trip to San Sebastián, Biarritz or the old town of Comillas.

What sets this apart from a standard surf school package is the location and the length of the programme. Oyambre is not a resort strip — it's a protected park with a handful of beaches, which means fewer crowds in the line-up and more consistent conditions for learning. Five nights also gives you enough water time to actually stand up and start turning, rather than spending the whole trip just paddling.
