Home › Retreats › Caribbean Sailing Yoga Adventure in Panama's San Blas Islands
Panama · 7 days · From USD 3016
You fly into Panama City and transfer by 4x4 and speedboat through the Guna Yala Comarca, the autonomous indigenous territory that administers the San Blas Islands. By mid-morning you're aboard the sailboat, anchored in water so clear you can see the anchor chain on the sand 20 feet down. Check-in is at 5 PM, but you're on the boat hours before that, settling into your cabin and getting your bearings.
Each day follows a loose rhythm. Mornings usually start with yoga on whichever beach you're anchored near — sunrise vinyasa, hatha flow, or a slower session depending on the group's energy. Jessy teaches in English, French, or Spanish, and she adapts styles freely (she's trained in Vinyasa, Yin, Somatic, and Kundalini over 10+ years of teaching across India, Mexico, Panama, and Peru). After practice, you're back on the boat for breakfast, then the captain raises sail and you head for the next anchorage.
Afternoons are for the water. The Cayos Holandeses have some of the best snorkeling in Panama — healthy coral, reef fish, the occasional nurse shark or ray. Jessy also runs freediving sessions for anyone interested: breath-hold techniques, equalization, relaxation, body awareness. It's approached as moving meditation rather than competitive sport. If you'd rather paddleboard or just float, the gear is on board.
Some days include a trip ashore. You might hike through the jungle on the mainland to a waterfall, keeping an eye out for crocodiles and jaguars (they're there, though rarely seen). Or visit a Guna village to learn about their molas (traditional textile art), music, and way of life. The Guna have governed these islands since the 1930s and maintain strong cultural traditions despite tourism's encroachment elsewhere in Panama.
Evenings wind down with a sunset yin or restorative session, dinner on deck, and stars. The boat is eco-friendly and simple — one bathroom with a shower (though everyone prefers the deck shower for the view), solar power, and a cozy wood-finished interior. You're sharing close quarters with the captain and Jessy, so it helps to be comfortable with that level of intimacy. The trade-off is access to places you'd never reach on a resort holiday.
The retreat runs January through April, and you can book anywhere from 2 to 15 nights, though 7 is recommended to really settle into the rhythm. Departure dates are flexible — you pick your arrival, and the boat picks you up. It's designed for couples, solo travelers, or pairs of friends who want the whole boat to themselves.
