Home › Retreats › Chile Wine & Yoga Wellness Journey: Santiago, Colchagua Valley & Lake District
Lake District · 7 days
Day one is Santiago. You're met at Comodoro Arturo Merino Benítez International Airport and driven to the Mandarin Oriental Santiago, then taken on a half-day city tour covering La Moneda, Plaza de Armas, the cathedral and the viewpoints of Cerro San Cristóbal and Cerro Santa Lucía.
Day two you transfer to the Colchagua Valley and check into VIK Chile for two nights. Colchagua is Chile's best-known red wine region — Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carménère, the grape that was thought extinct after phylloxera and was rediscovered here in 1994. VIK sits on roughly 11,000 acres in an area the indigenous Mapuche called Millahue, 'Place of Gold'.
Day three at VIK is the fullest day of the trip. There's a guided vineyard tour from the winemaker's perspective, a tasting in the cellar with one of the VIK team, and a sunset yoga class on the pool deck with views over the countryside — the class is pitched at different levels. You can also ride horses or mountain bikes through the vines and trails, swim in the marble infinity pool, and finish with a South American barbecue and stargazing.
Days four to six are at Vira Vira near Pucón, reached by a domestic flight from Santiago. Pucón is the adventure base of Chile, with Villarrica volcano above the town, thermal springs nearby and national parks in every direction. Vira Vira keeps around thirty excursions on its menu, and each day the guides present a set of options so you choose by difficulty or by whether you want a nature or cultural focus. Expect hiking in the Andean foothills, horseback riding, kayaking and fly-fishing among the choices.
The wellness side at Vira Vira is separate from the activities and worth booking in: massage rooms set in native forest, yoga sessions, and Forest Therapy (Shinrin Yoku), the Japanese practice of slowing down in woodland to reset your senses. Meals at Vira Vira are built on Chilean and indigenous recipes with seasonal ingredients rather than an international hotel menu, and each course is paired with wine.
Day seven you're driven to Temuco's Araucanía International Airport, fly back to Santiago, and connect onward. The whole itinerary — hotels, transfers, guides, tours and listed meals — is quoted as a package, and can be adjusted before booking.
