City Yoga Wellness Escape in Barcelona with Daily Vinyasa

City Yoga Wellness Escape in Barcelona with Daily Vinyasa

Barcelona · 4 days · From USD 390

The retreat takes place in a beautifully restored modernist building, built in 1890 and listed as an example of the city's modernist movement. You'll sleep, eat, and practice in a space that has kept its original features—colorful tiled floors, high decorated ceilings, long airy corridors, and a cast-iron back facade—while the rooms themselves have been redesigned by the Barcelona studio PPT Interiors. The result is a mix of old and new, a constant reminder of the building's history but with contemporary comfort throughout. It's the kind of place where you immediately feel at home, even though you're only staying for a few nights.

A typical day here runs on a gentle rhythm. Your morning begins with a 90-minute yoga session, taught by one of the teachers on the team that week. The classes are vinyasa-based but vary in style depending on who's teaching—some are dynamic, others more restorative, some incorporate breathwork or meditation. After the class, there's a communal vegetarian brunch in the gallery, a bright room with a big breakfast table and sitting area. From late March, evening classes move to the rooftop terrace, where you can practice while watching the sunset over the city. During the colder months, the evening practices take place in the cozy indoor shala, which has a fireplace for the chillier days. The rooftop class is open to the public of Barcelona in the warm months, which is a nice way to meet locals who share an interest in yoga.

The retreat is run by YogaWeeks, a company founded by Ana, who started it after leaving a 12-year corporate career in London and Barcelona. The team includes a range of teachers with different backgrounds—Virginia trained in Hatha Yoga in Rishikesh and is certified in Shakti Dance; Jeni did her 200-hour training in Thailand and teaches aerial yoga; Mar has done 700 hours of Ashtanga training and specializes in pranayama; and others bring experience from New York, Vienna, and beyond. With such a rotating cast, the teaching stays fresh, and you're likely to encounter at least a couple of different styles during a short stay. The atmosphere is friendly and communal, with guests sharing meals and conversations in the gallery or relaxing on the patio with a hammock and seating.
