Coastal Yoga and Meditation Escape in Muchalls, Scotland

The retreat takes place at Toadhall Rooms, a boutique B&B in the hamlet of Muchalls, near Stonehaven. The location is the main draw: the North Sea is a two-minute walk away, with cliff-top walks and a private pebble beach where guests have spotted dolphins. The property itself is a converted farm building with a garden, free parking, and free wifi.

Each day there are yoga and meditation classes, plus pranayama (breathing) sessions. The teaching is led by Kaye, a massage therapist and yoga teacher with over a decade of experience, who runs Holistic Essences. She's known for her supportive, down-to-earth style—one guest noted how a class helped a stiff neck, another praised the blend of Hatha and Restorative yoga.

The schedule is deliberately unhurried. All sessions are optional, and guests are encouraged to go at their own pace. Mornings might start with a gentle practice, afternoons are free for walks or relaxation, and evenings wind down with restorative poses and meditation. The dining area, with its stove fireplace, is a cosy spot to read or chat between sessions.

Meals are all vegetarian, with a selection of teas and coffees available throughout the day, plus a freshly made juice each morning. Dietary requirements can be accommodated if you let them know when booking. The atmosphere is calm and friendly, with a maximum of nine guests, so you're likely to get to know everyone.
