Couples Nervous-System Repair Retreat in Da Nang, Vietnam

Vietnam · 2 days · From EUR 6550

The two days are structured around daily couple sessions, daily immersion work and daily movement and meditation practices. The couple sessions are not talk therapy in the usual sense — they are guided spaces where you work with what is happening in the body in real time. The immersion work goes into what the facilitator calls somatic thresholds: guided attunement and body-level work aimed at the places where old injuries, betrayals or unspoken hurts are still being held. Movement and meditation are used to re-pattern the nervous system, to bring the body back to a baseline where intimacy is possible rather than something to be managed. There is also work on attraction and erotic tension, on the assumption that desire is not something you perform but something that returns when the nervous system feels safe.

What makes this different from a standard couples counselling weekend is the sequence. Most therapy starts with talking about the problem. This retreat starts with the body — breath, sensation, movement — and only brings in the mind, sexuality and the relationship story after that foundation has been established. The facilitator describes it as working at the level where the wound actually lives, rather than chatting around the edges of it. That means some of the work is non-verbal: using breath, touch and movement to release what cannot be talked through.

Over the two days you will also map the repeating relationship cycle — the negative loop that both partners can feel but neither can quite name — and look at the bonding patterns each person brought into the relationship from earlier in life. By the end of the second day there is a closing rite, described as a heart-anchored ceremony, to mark the end of the cycle you have been working on. You leave with what is called a Sacred Union Blueprint: a written map for continuing the repair at home, covering mental, emotional, somatic, spiritual and erotic layers.

The facilitator is an intimacy specialist who works with couples in crisis, after affairs, and at thresholds like the empty nest. She is based in Bozeman, Montana, and runs a small number of these two-day formats in Da Nang. The setting is a coastal villa with ocean and mountain views, though the room itself is in a downtown location, so you are a short drive from both the beach and the city's restaurants. Breakfast, snacks, water, tea and coffee are provided during sessions; lunch is not included and there are plenty of options in town from around 5.

This is not a retreat for someone looking for a holiday with a bit of yoga attached. It is a focused piece of relationship work with a specific therapeutic method. It suits couples who have already tried talking and want to try something that goes further into the body, and who are willing to be honest in front of each other. It is also suitable for couples who are not in crisis but want to reset patterns before they become a problem. The days finish at 2:30 pm, leaving the afternoons and evenings free to be together in Da Nang — which, given the nature of the work, is often the most useful part of the day.
