Home › Retreats › Digital Detox & Yoga Wellness Escape in Bali's Rice Paddies
Indonesia · 7 days · From USD 622
The Dukuh Retreat sits in the Tabanan Regency, about 90 minutes from the airport and under an hour from the busier spots like Canggu or Ubud. The village of Belumbang is about as far from the tourist strip as you can get while still being reachable — the roads are quiet, the rice terraces roll right up to the property, and a 15-minute walk brings you to the black sands of Pasut Beach. The resort is a cluster of stand-alone Balinese-style villas set in a garden full of fruit trees and vegetables that end up on your plate at mealtimes.
Every morning starts with a 90-minute yoga and meditation class, led by one of three local instructors — Tedy, Putu, or Bingwati — each with their own background and style, ranging from Ashtanga to Hatha to vinyasa flow. Afternoons are for culture. The list of optional excursions is long and varied: you could be cooking alongside the village women, learning to weave coconut leaves, visiting a shaman for a session, joining a purification ceremony at a temple, tubing down a lazy river, or cycling through rice paddies at sunset. The program is flexible — you choose what appeals to you each day, and the team arranges it.
The resort is CHSE-certified and 100% locally owned and operated. Wayan and his wife Nyoman started it with a clear mission: to create jobs and training for housewives and women in the village who otherwise have limited options. A portion of what you pay goes straight back into the local economy, and you'll feel that intention in the service. It's a genuinely community-rooted place, not a resort dropped into a village scene.
This is also explicitly a digital detox retreat. Guests are encouraged to leave phones and devices in their rooms — the staff will happily take photos for you if you want them. That enforced separation from screens is a big part of the experience here, and most guests seem to find it liberating rather than restrictive, especially with the pool, the rice paddy views, and the daily massage to fill the time instead.
Reviews consistently praise the staff, the food, and the sheer peace of the setting. A recurring theme is that guests come for a holiday and leave with a sense of having really connected with Bali — the ceremonies, the food, the people — rather than just passing through.
