Indonesia · 7 days · From USD 751
The retreat is set at an eco-luxury boutique resort in Tanah Lot, a village area about twenty minutes from Canggu's buzzy coastal scene. The property spreads across lush tropical gardens with sweeping views over rice fields and forest. What makes it distinctive is how connected the resort is to its surroundings — most of the team comes from the neighbouring villages, and they're genuinely happy to host you. Guests have been invited into local homes, shown traditional roof-tile making, and introduced to farmers' irrigation practices. It feels less like a resort bubble and more like staying with a community that happens to have world-class facilities.
Each day starts with yoga and meditation in one of two open-air shalas, taught by Jane, the in-house instructor. She holds a master's degree in social psychology and is a 500-hour Yoga Alliance-certified teacher. She teaches Hatha, Vinyasa, laughter yoga, and something the resort calls coconut yoga. Classes are tailored to your level, from complete beginners to experienced practitioners. If you're not feeling up to it, you're welcome to skip — the schedule is flexible and staff are quick to help you swap activities around.
The week kicks off with a private Melukat purification ceremony at a nearby temple, Griya Beji Punggul, guided by a local shaman. There are also hands-on workshops where you'll make jamu (a herbal wellness tonic) and boreh (a traditional spice scrub) from ingredients like turmeric, ginger, and clove. Beyond that, the activity menu includes a nature walk to Tanah Lot temple, snorkelling at Padang Bai, a Jatiluwih walking tour, horseback riding, a surfing lesson, and a trip to Leke Leke Waterfall. Between all that, you've got a spa on site for Balinese treatments, and meals at a restaurant that blends Balinese, Indonesian, and Italian flavours.
The villas themselves are a big part of the appeal. Each one is air-conditioned, has a premium King Koil mattress with soft Lyocell sheets, and a semi-open-air bathroom with a hand-carved river stone bathtub — guests mention stargazing while soaking. You also get bathrobes, slippers, a hairdryer, signature bath products, and a smart TV. It's five-star comfort, but with the feel of a real retreat rather than a chain resort.
