Home › Retreats › Embrace the Edge: A Week of Vinyasa and Hatha Yoga in Mexico
Mexico · 8 days · From USD 599
The daily rhythm is set by Fiji's classes: uninterrupted vinyasa and hatha-style flows, with workshops layered in across the week that dig into the finer points of the practice. Fiji's own teaching focuses on vinyasa flow infused with power, strength and precision — her classes are described as strong, with support and guidance built in so students can work at the edge of what they can do. Expect to be challenged, but not left to figure it out alone.
What separates this from a standard resort yoga week is the teacher. Fiji McAlpine is an ERYT 500 instructor, trained extensively in California, Costa Rica and Canada, and one of the founding yoga teachers on DoYogaWithMe.com. She teaches at Harmony Yoga in Duncan, British Columbia, and has been running retreats and workshops internationally to connect with students who have practised with her online. She has spoken openly about using yoga as a tool in recovering from an eating disorder, which shapes how she holds a room.
The setting is Mar de Jade, a beachfront property on Mexico's Pacific coast. Guests stay in Ocean, Garden or Guest rooms, or in a women's dorm with loft space shared between four. The resort has its own facilities, and the rate covers use of all of them, plus three buffet meals a day and coffee, tea and fruit throughout the day.
Beyond the mat, the week is yours to fill. Excursions and resort activities are available but not included in the price, as are spa treatments and bar drinks. Airport transfers are also not included, so you arrange your own transport to and from the resort. All taxes are covered in the accommodation rate.
The group is kept deliberately small enough that Fiji can give individual attention — this is a retreat built around personal contact with a teacher people have usually only seen on screen. If you have followed her online classes and want the in-person version, that is exactly what this week is for.
