Equine Guided Wellness Retreat in Guanajuato: Four Days with the Herd

Mexico · 6 days · From USD 2530

Rancho Baile De La Luna is a working horse ranch in Guanajuato, Mexico, and this retreat is built around being there rather than doing things there. You arrive on day one, settle into your room, walk the property, and meet the horses from a distance. The first full day starts with breakfast, then a session in the round pen or the open corral where you're introduced to the herd and given basic safety guidelines. From there, the days follow a rhythm: morning session with the horses, lunch, rest or free time, afternoon session, dinner, and an evening circle or quiet time. The sessions are not riding lessons. You might spend an hour grooming one horse and noticing how it stands, whether it leans in or steps away, and what that brings up for you. You might walk a horse on a lead line and pay attention to where you hold tension. You might sit in the pasture and do nothing but watch. The facilitator asks questions, but mostly you're the one doing the noticing. The Four Agreements framework shapes the conversation. One session might focus on assumptions — what you decide the horse is thinking versus what it's actually doing. Another might look at taking things personally — how you react when a horse ignores you or walks off. The book's author grew up in this region, and the retreat uses that connection loosely; it's not a literary seminar, it's a way to structure reflection. There's no prior horse experience needed. The horses are used to beginners and the facilitator works with you at whatever pace you're at. What makes this different from other equine retreats is that there's no riding and no performance element. You're not learning to trot, you're not doing a demonstration for the group. The work is internal and the horses are the feedback mechanism. That means it can feel slow, and some people find the first day frustrating because they want a task. By day three, most people settle into it. The group is usually small, which matters because the sessions are personal. You'll eat meals together, but there's no pressure to share more than you want. The ranch is quiet at night, and the sky is dark enough to see stars. Guanajuato city is about 30 minutes away if you want to add a day trip, but most people stay on the property for the full four days. The retreat ends after breakfast on day six, with a closing circle the night before.
