F. X. Mayr Fasting and Detox Retreat by the Sea in Tenerife

The F. X. Mayr Center occupies a villa by the sea, next to the OCÉANO Health Spa Hotel on Tenerife's Atlantic coast. It is a working health centre rather than a hotel with a spa attached: doctors and therapists have practised classical Mayr medicine here for over two decades, and the centre has received multiple awards and is described as among the most recognised F. X. Mayr centres in Europe. Fasting guests get their own restaurant, dedicated entirely to the Mayr Cure, with an outdoor terrace.

Programmes are structured around four directions — Detox, Exercise, Mental Balance, and the classic Basic Program — and you create your plan together with your attending physician. The intensity is matched to your individual condition, which is the point of doing this under medical supervision rather than following a generic juice cleanse. A newer addition, the F. X. Mayr Mental Balance programme, combines the core Mayr principles with therapies aimed at stress reduction and emotional equilibrium, including massages and an Ocean Healing Sound experience in the Thalasso pool.

The setting matters here. OCÉANO sits between the Atlantic and the evergreen peaks of the Anaga Mountains, away from the mass-tourism parts of the island, and the climate stays mild and spring-like year round. That combination — sea air, mild weather, no crowds — is what the centre says supports the cure.

The OCÉANO Health Spa runs alongside the medical programme. Its therapists work in consultation with the medical team, so spa treatments are used to deepen the effects of the cure, help with chronic pain, and build fitness rather than as an unrelated add-on. You can book massages and other therapies on top of your programme.
