Home › Retreats › Fitness & Wellness Retreat in the French Alps: Week-Long Small-Group Escape
French Alps · 7 days · From EUR 1290
The week follows a consistent rhythm: a morning training session before breakfast, a long break in the middle of the day, then a second session or a restorative class in the late afternoon. Morning sessions cover functional strength and conditioning — think kettlebells, bodyweight circuits, sled work, and loaded carries. Afternoon slots alternate between mobility and stretch work, a second conditioning block, and guided hikes on the surrounding trails. The midweek day is lighter on purpose, so nobody burns out by Friday.
What sets this apart from a standard fitness camp is the group size and the coaching ratio. With a maximum of 12 people, the instructor can correct technique properly and adjust loads session by session. You'll also spend time on the trail rather than only indoors — the programme uses the mountain paths and lakeside routes as training terrain, so you're hiking for a few hours at a time rather than walking a loop for 20 minutes as a warm-up.
The instructor leading the week has a background in strength and conditioning and group fitness coaching, with experience taking mixed-ability groups through progressive training weeks. They'll run a short movement assessment on day one so everyone starts at the right level, and they'll write the week's sessions around what the group can actually handle. If you have a niggle or an old injury, that gets worked around rather than ignored.
The location is a small alpine town in the French Alps, sitting at altitude with mountains on all sides and a lake a short walk from the accommodation. Summer temperatures are comfortable for training — warm in the day, cool enough at night to sleep well without air conditioning. The town has a handful of cafés and shops, so you're not completely cut off, but it's quiet enough that the week genuinely feels like a break from normal life.
Accommodation is on-site in shared or private rooms, depending on the package you book, with meals prepared for the group. Breakfast and dinner are cooked at the property; lunch is either provided or taken on the trail depending on the day's schedule. The whole thing runs as a single group for the week, which means by day two you know everyone's name and by day five you've got a regular hiking companion.
