Home › Retreats › Galapagos Wildlife Safari with Optional Yoga, Surfing and Hiking
Galapagos Islands · 8 days
Days are a mix of guided excursions and time at camp. A typical day might start with breakfast, then a boat trip to an uninhabited island such as North Seymour, Bartolomé, South Plaza or Santa Fe — each has different wildlife and landscapes. Those trips include a guided snorkel and lunch on the boat, because no food is allowed inside the National Park. On other days you might visit the Charles Darwin Research Station to learn about Lonesome George and the tortoise breeding programmes, or hike a marked trail with an official guide (97% of the archipelago is protected, so you cannot walk unaccompanied).
Back at camp there is a list of things to do that you arrange with your Safari Designer. A private yoga class on the Observatory Deck is one option; you can also just borrow a mat and practise on your own. Surfing is available for beginners — an instructor pushes you onto waves and gives pointers, and this is the only place in the world where you can surf alongside marine iguanas. Kayaking goes through the mangrove forests along the coast. Scuba diving explores the Galapagos Marine Reserve, with tropical and temperate species. Massage is available with advance notice.
Food and drink experiences are part of the offer too. You can join a chocolate session with Ecuadorian chocolatier Juan Daniel Navarro, who makes turtle-shaped bonbons from Cacao Nacional in 30–45 minutes. There is a coffee roasting and tasting at Café Islander, where you sort beans and watch a Diedrich IR-5 roaster at work. A visit to Don Adriano's farm shows sugar cane being pressed by a mule and coffee made by hand. The Galapagos Brewery tour covers craft beer that has won over 20 medals, including Best Brewery 2024 at Copa 4 Mundos Ecuador. At camp, Head Chefs Dani or Daysi can demonstrate ceviche, and Head Barman Jorge runs a cocktail class.
The camp itself is in the highlands, away from the town and the main port. That means you are close to the tortoise reserves and the farmland, and far from streetlights. Guests have private decks, and stargazing is simply something you do from there — there are no formal astronomy sessions. A lava cave sits within the grounds; with notice you can arrange a tea party or picnic inside it. There is also a Kids' Club with tree planting, fruit picking, painting and dance, so families are catered for.
This is a safari, not a bootcamp. The fitness element is optional and add-on: yoga, surfing, hiking, kayaking and diving. If you want a week of scheduled training, this is not that. If you want wildlife, boats, snorkelling and the option to do a yoga class or a surf lesson between excursions, it fits. The operator can tailor the itinerary and extend your stay, including to Isabela Island or mainland Ecuador.
