What you do at La Salle depends on who booked it. The center provides the rooms, meeting space and grounds, and your group brings the content, whether that's a school retreat, a parish weekend, a workshop or a conference. The page doesn't publish a standard daily schedule, so there isn't a typical day to describe. A group might meet in a conference room, then head outside to the fields or picnic areas between sessions.
What sets La Salle apart from a generic conference venue is the history you can walk through. Our Lady of Lourdes grotto was built on the hilltop by the Brothers and their students and dedicated on September 8, 1891. St. Joseph Grotto followed in 1934, built in gratitude after the state dropped a plan to cut Highway 109 through the ball fields. It still faces those fields.
The buildings have their own stories too. The West Wing went up in 1927, mainly as a dormitory for novices, using stone quarried nearby. It also held science labs and carpentry and machine shops. The East Wing was dedicated in 1931 by Archbishop Glennon, housed retired and teaching Brothers, and is now home to the Peace Place. The top two floors of the main building were removed in the late 1960s, and the chapel moved to the ground floor.
The retreat center has a long track record with local groups. St. Francis Borgia High School held the first student retreat here in 1978 and still comes back. The first ACTS retreats in the St. Louis area took place here in 2002, sponsored by St. Joseph Parish in Manchester and Holy Spirit Parish in Maryland Heights. In 2011, for the 125th anniversary, Archbishop Robert Carlson blessed the front entrance and rededicated La Salle to its mission of "Service Inspired by Faith."
There's no lead instructor or resident teaching team named on the page, because the sessions are generally run by the visiting group. The center also lists its own events. The next one shown is a seminar or talk on November 18, 2026, from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Anyone looking for a ready-made fitness or wellness week should know that this is a venue to hire, not a guided programme.
