Healing Reset Retreat: Oceanfront Yoga & Wellness Escape in Sayulita, Mexico

Mexico · 7 days · From EUR 2500

Mornings start early here whether you plan it or not, because the casitas have no walls and no electric lights, so the sun and the birds do the waking. Breakfast is served in the open-air dining room looking out over the jungle and down to the water. Yoga runs in one of two shalas: the larger one is open on all sides with a sunrise view over the jungle and the mountains; the other is more sheltered with a view out to the ocean. Both are stocked with props — mats, blocks, straps, bolsters — so you don't need to bring anything. After class there's usually a dip in the infinity pool and lunch, then the afternoon is yours.

What's included each day is one spa treatment or wellness session of your choice. The spa is open-air and set into the jungle, and the menu leans on bodywork rather than a long list of facials — the Shiatsu massage in particular gets singled out repeatedly by guests who've been to a lot of spas. On-site therapists also do body work by the pool deck if you'd rather stay outside. Beyond that, guests tend to fill afternoons with the beach: there's a private strip of sand below the property reached by a steep path, and at low tide you can walk a long way along it. The surf directly below can be rough and the rip current serious, so swimming is often better around the corner at the neighbouring beach or back in the pool.

Evenings are quiet by design. Dinner is served in the dining room, and depending on the night there may be a sweat lodge ceremony — several reviewers call it the highlight of their stay and tell people not to skip it. After dark the resort runs on lamps and candles, which sounds gimmicky until you're three days in and sleeping better than you have in months. One guest described hitting that point on day four: "a noodle, in the best way."

What separates this from a standard beach resort is the combination of the setting and how small it is. Fifty guests maximum, no televisions, no minibars, no piped music — but also no roughing it. The beds and linens are high-end, the showers have strong water pressure, and rooms get cleaned and re-stocked with fresh flowers daily. The owner's attention to detail is the thing guests mention most after the food. If you're expecting a luxury-hotel experience with air conditioning, this isn't it; if you want to sleep with the doors open to the jungle and the ocean, it is exactly that.

Sayulita is a 20-minute walk away and worth an afternoon — good coffee, surf shops, a busy little town square. One repeat guest's advice: don't go mid-stay if the goal is to unplug, because it'll pull you right back into the noise. Better to save it for the day you leave, or skip it. And bring proper shoes — the path between the casitas and the main buildings is steep. Sandals work, but you'll be happier in trainers.
