Nepal · 8 days · From USD 539
The retreat is run by Arogya Nepal, a lifestyle medical centre founded on the premise that most chronic non-communicable diseases respond better to sustained changes in diet, movement and stress management than to medication alone. Every guest's programme is supervised by university-qualified Ayurvedic physicians (BAMS degree holders), and treatments are administered by certified therapists using traditional oils and formulations prepared on-site.
The training content covers classical Ayurveda theory — doshas, agni, daily and seasonal routines — alongside practical skills you can take home: how to design your own dietary plan, safe self-detoxification techniques, and stress management methods drawn from both Ayurveda and yoga. Panchakarma therapies such as Abhyanga (warm oil massage) and Shirodhara (continuous oil pouring on the forehead) are woven into the week as demonstrations and treatments, so you experience what you're learning about.
Yoga sessions combine hatha postures with pranayama (breathwork), shatkarma (cleansing techniques) and meditation. They're led by Bhuban, a certified Ayurvedic Allied Health Worker with six years' experience, who adjusts the practice for people managing specific conditions like hypertension or diabetes. The residential physician, Dr. Damodar Ghimire, is present throughout and available for individual consultations.
The setting makes a real difference. At this altitude the air is noticeably cleaner than in Kathmandu, and the property is surrounded by forest with hiking trails to nearby villages. Afternoons often include guided walks — jungle hikes, visits to local temples, or just circuits around the property. The environment is quiet enough that several past guests have commented on how restful it felt to be the only person in residence, though the centre can accommodate up to eight at a time.
