Home › Retreats › Himalayan Yoga Trek: 5-Day Wellness Escape in Nagarkot, Nepal
Kathmandu · 5 days · From USD 384
The retreat is run by Yatri Yoga Retreat, a Kathmandu-based outfit that leads guided yoga treks across Nepal. This particular route follows the Nagarkot trail, a ridge walk east of Kathmandu that takes you from the Sundarijal watershed up through forest and farmland to the village of Nagarkot, famous for its sunrise view of eight Himalayan ranges, including Everest and Annapurna. You'll sleep in a different place each night—a hotel in Kathmandu, tourist lodges in Chisapani and Nagarkot—so you get a feel for how trekking actually works in Nepal.
Each day is structured around the walk, with yoga fitted in when it makes sense: a 90-minute evening session after reaching Chisapani, a morning meditation and yoga as the sun comes up over the Himalayas on Nagarkot day, and another sunrise session before the final hike down. The teaching is led by Priya, a certified yoga instructor who grew up in a yogic family—her father is a long-time Yoga and Naturopathy practitioner—and she's joined on the trail by Jay, a physical trainer and licensed trekking guide who trained at Nepal's Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management. Between them they handle the practice and the practicalities of moving a small group through the hills.
The food is vegetarian, locally sourced, and cooked by the guesthouses and lodges you stay at: dal bhat, curries, vegetables, and endless hot tea. The itinerary stacks the hardest walking on days two and three—around four to five hours and six to seven hours respectively—then eases off with a short hike and a drive back to Kathmandu on day four. That pacing means you finish tired but not wrecked, with enough energy left to enjoy the last evening in the city.
What makes this different from a plain trekking trip is the simple fact that you're practicing yoga every day, in places you wouldn't normally roll out a mat: a Sherpa village terrace as the sun sets, a ridge line with Everest in the distance, a quiet garden in Kathmandu. The reviews are consistent about this—guests mention the daily sessions as a counterbalance to the physical effort, and the guides get repeated praise for being knowledgeable and supportive. If you want the mountains without abandoning your practice, this is a sensible, well-priced way to get both.
