Home › Retreats › Himalayan Yoga Trek: 7 Days Walking the Poon Hill Trail with Daily Practice
Nepal · 7 days · From USD 587
The Poon Hill trek is one of Nepal's classic short treks, and this version adds structured yoga to the mix. You're not doing yoga in a studio with mountain views projected on a screen — you're actually in the mountains, practicing on lodge terraces with the Annapurna range in front of you.
The route starts from Nayapul (about an hour's drive from Pokhara) and climbs steadily through villages and forest to Ghorepani, the staging point for Poon Hill. Day four is the highlight: you wake before dawn, hike an hour to the summit, and watch the sun come up over Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail). Then you trek back down through Tadapani and Ghandruk over the next two days.
The yoga sessions happen in the mornings and sometimes evenings, led by Priya, who grew up in a yogic family and is a certified instructor. The practice is adapted to how your body feels after a day of trekking — expect more stretching, hip openers, and breathwork than power flows. The guide, Jay, handles the trekking side: navigation, logistics, cultural context, and making sure you're drinking enough water at altitude.
Accommodation is in teahouses along the trail — simple mountain lodges run by local families. You'll have a private room with an attached bathroom (basic, but warm and clean), and meals are included. The food is local: dal bhat (lentils with rice), vegetable curries, momos (dumplings), and endless cups of tea.
This isn't a luxury retreat. The lodges have wifi (sometimes), heating (wood stoves in common areas), and hot showers (solar-heated, so timing matters). What you get instead is the real thing: walking through one of the most beautiful mountain ranges on earth, sleeping in villages where English is a second language, and practicing yoga in places where the air is thin and the views are enormous.
