Home › Retreats › Himalayan Yoga Trek to Sacred Gosaikunda Lake in Nepal
Kathmandu · 8 days · From USD 759
The trek starts in Kathmandu with a night to acclimatise, then a long drive (6–7 hours) along the Trishuli River to the town of Dhunche at 1,950 metres. From there you walk uphill each day, climbing through different forest zones — bamboo, then oak, then rhododendron — until you reach Sing Gompa at 3,254 metres, known for its small monastery.
The next day is the big push: over Laurebina Pass (the trek's highest point) and down to the shore of Gosaikunda itself, at 4,336 metres. The lake is sacred to both Hindus and Buddhists, and on a clear day you can see the snow peaks of Ganesh Himal, Annapurna, and Hiuchuli from the surrounding ridges. You spend the night here in a basic tea house.
The descent takes three days, dropping through villages like Ghopte and Kutumsang before finishing at Chisapani, a ridge-top settlement with views back to the mountains. The final morning is a walk down through Shivapuri National Park — home to musk deer and red pandas, though sightings are rare — to the trailhead at Sundarijal, then a one-hour drive back to Kathmandu.
Yoga sessions are fitted around the walking schedule. On trekking days they typically happen in the evening after you've arrived at the day's guesthouse and had time to rest. The style is adapted to the altitude and how tired people are — expect gentler sessions on the harder days. Meditation and pranayama are also included.
The group guide, Jay, is trained through Nepal's Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management and has extensive experience on these trails. He handles logistics, safety, and cultural context throughout.
Accommodation is simple mountain lodges with attached bathrooms on most nights, plus a more comfortable hotel in Kathmandu at the start and end. Meals are included throughout — three a day, plus tea and snacks — and the food is locally sourced, organic where possible, with plenty of options for vegetarians and vegans.
