Himalayan Yoga & Trekking Adventure Through Nepal's Ancient Cities

Himalayan Yoga & Trekking Adventure Through Nepal's Ancient Cities

Nepal · 9 days · From USD 776

The retreat is run by Yatri Yoga, based in the Kathmandu Valley. They pick you up from Tribhuvan International Airport and bring you to their centre, where you spend the first two days settling in, practising yoga, and preparing for the trek ahead. The yoga is hatha-style: morning sessions include stretching, pranayama (breathing exercises), and a sequence of postures; evening sessions are lighter, with more emphasis on relaxation.

On day three you hike to Chisapani, a Sherpa village about four hours uphill from the valley. The trail passes through deep forest with birdsong and the chance of spotting wildlife. Chisapani means 'cold water' in Nepali, and the village sits at a vantage point where you can see the Eastern Himalayan ranges from Langtang to Gaurishankar. You do yoga in the evening with the setting sun behind the mountains.

The next morning you're up for sunrise yoga, then walk another five hours to Nagarkot, one of the classic viewpoints in the Kathmandu Valley rim. Eight of Nepal's thirteen Himalayan ranges are visible from here, including Everest, Annapurna, and Manaslu. The trail passes through forest and terraced fields, with a lunch stop at Chauki Bhanjyang.

From Nagarkot you descend to Bhaktapur, the best-preserved of the three old royal cities in the valley. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site, full of pagodas, carved wooden columns, and brick courtyards. You have time to wander the streets and absorb the Newar culture before spending the night there.

Day six is a travel day: you drive back to Kathmandu, then take a private jeep or VIP bus to Pokhara, about six hours west. Pokhara sits on the shore of Lake Phewa, with the Annapurna range rising directly behind. The lakeside area is a classic traveller hub — relaxed, with plenty of cafes and easy access to trails and water.

On day seven you're up early for the highlight: sunrise yoga at Sarangkot, the ridge above Pokhara. You practice facing Machapuchare (the Fishtail peak) as the sun comes up over your right shoulder. After breakfast you return to Pokhara, and in the afternoon visit the World Peace Pagoda, hike down through the forest, and take a boat across the lake. The final morning includes one more yoga session before you head back to Kathmandu or onward to your next destination.
