Home › Retreats › Himalayan Yoga & Trekking Adventure to Poon Hill, Nepal
Nepal · 7 days · From USD 587
The trek begins in Pokhara, Nepal's second city, with a drive to the trailhead at Nayapul. From there you follow the Modi Khola river valley, crossing suspension bridges and climbing stone steps through small settlements where chickens wander across the path and locals dry grain on rooftops. The first night is at Tikhedhunga, a village perched above a waterfall.
Day two is the big climb: more than 1,300 metres of elevation gain to Ghorepani, passing through the Magar village of Ulleri and into dense rhododendron forest. In spring (March-April) the rhododendrons bloom pink and red; in autumn the skies are clearest. Ghorepani itself is a cluster of teahouses on a ridge, and from there it's a pre-dawn hike to Poon Hill for sunrise — the centrepiece of the trip.
After Poon Hill the route descends through Tadapani and down to Ghandruk, one of the most photographed villages in Nepal. Stone-paved lanes, slate-roofed houses, and direct views of Annapurna South and Machhapuchhre make it a fitting finale before the final walk down to Nayapul and the drive back to Pokhara.
Yoga sessions happen in the mornings before breakfast and sometimes in the evenings after the day's walk. The style is hatha-based, with pranayama (breathing exercises) and meditation built in. Priya adapts the sessions to the group's energy and the altitude — gentler stretches on the harder trekking days, more active flows on rest mornings. No prior experience is required, and mats are provided.
Meals are Nepali staples: dal bhat (lentils and rice), vegetable curries, momos (dumplings), chapati, and plenty of tea. The food is simple, filling, and vegetarian-friendly by default. The teahouses vary in comfort — some have attached bathrooms, some shared — but all have beds, blankets, and basic heating.
