Portugal · 7 days · From EUR 379
Training happens in two main areas. Indoors there's a Rogue-equipped CrossFit box with a Monster Rig, Olympic lifting platforms, climbing ropes, rings, rubber flooring and dedicated metabolic conditioning stations — Rogue Echo Bike v3, Concept2 Model D rower and Concept2 SkiErg. Outdoors you get a 36m x 16m concrete court, a Monster Rig for outdoor WODs, an obstacle course racing area, a climbing wall, ten weightlifting stations and a 100m² Dollamur Flexi-Roll mat area for jiu-jitsu. For HYROX prep specifically, there's a sled track, sandbags, wall balls, farmers carry handles and everything you need to simulate race conditions without travelling to a competition venue.
A typical day starts with an early session — often conditioning or a HYROX-specific circuit — before breakfast. Mid-morning is usually skills work: Olympic lifting technique, gymnastics or a coached CrossFit class. Afternoons open up for surf coaching at Supertubos or Baleal, which is where a lot of people realise how much the ocean paddling takes out of you after a morning of sled pushes. Evening sessions are lighter: yoga for recovery, mobility work, or an open gym block if you want to get extra volume in. The box runs open hours through the day, so you're not locked into the group if you'd rather train on your own plan.
What separates this from a standard fitness retreat is the equipment. The Rogue kit list is genuinely complete — Ohio Bars, Bella Bars, IWF change plates, colour Echo bumpers, kettlebells, dumbbells, Monster Lite Rig 2.0, speed ropes, monster bands, abmats and a foam games box. If your home box is missing something, it's probably here. The indoor box is a certified CrossFit affiliate and the only one in Peniche, and the site holds official HYROX Training Club status.
Peniche itself is a fishing town on a peninsula, which means water on both sides and reliable wind and swell. Baleal, just up the road, has gentler sandy breaks suited to intermediates, while Supertubos is a punchy beach break that hosts a WSL event — the coaching team will place you according to your level rather than dropping everyone into the same peak. Between sessions you can walk into town for coffee, eat at the on-site restaurant, or use the two pools, which are reserved for guests staying at the lodge.
Group camps are a big part of what happens here. Coaches bring their boxes back year after year, either running their own programming in the space or collaborating with Paulo on the plan. If you're travelling solo rather than with a box, you'll slot into the regular class and open gym schedule, which caps at 15 people per class so you still get hands-on coaching. Note that the box itself has only a WC — no changing rooms or showers — so plan to shower back at your accommodation.
