HYROX Preparation Camp at Playitas Resort, Fuerteventura

HYROX Preparation Camp at Playitas Resort, Fuerteventura

Canary Islands · 5 days

The camp runs for five days, from 31 August to 4 September, and the whole thing is oriented around race-day execution rather than pure training volume. You'll do structured run sessions built around the HYROX 1km format, station-specific work on the sled push and pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, ski erg, farmers carry, sandbag lunges and wall balls, and then the part most people neglect: practising the transitions between them. There are also pace-planning and strategy sessions, so you leave with a written plan for your race — target split per kilometre, target split per station, and a realistic idea of where you'll lose time.

What separates this from a standard HYROX training week is the emphasis. The description is explicit that it's not about maximum training load. It's about learning to manage your effort across stations, hold your pace under fatigue, and make decisions when your heart rate is at threshold. Hugo Hugemark leads the week as a Playitas ambassador. Expect small-group coaching, video or timing feedback where relevant, and a schedule that leaves you fresh enough to actually absorb the technical work rather than just survive it.

The setting helps. Playitas Resort sits on the east coast of Fuerteventura, and the resort is set up for athletes — a 25m pool, gym facilities, athletics track, tennis and padel courts, and flat coastal roads for running and cycling. Fuerteventura in late August and early September is hot, which is worth knowing if your race is in a cooler climate: you'll be training in conditions that make pacing discipline non-negotiable.

The camp is timed for people heading to HYROX Tenerife, the first HYROX in the Canary Islands, but it works just as well as preparation for a race later in the season. You can bring a partner or friend who isn't racing — they book the same accommodation and board and use the resort as they like while you're in sessions.

Because the camp is added on top of a normal resort booking, you choose your own dates (including 31 August to 4 September) and your own room and board. That means the week is as comfortable or as basic as you want it to be, and you're not locked into a shared dorm if you'd rather have your own space before a race.
