Home › Retreats › HYROX Preparation Camp: Train Smart, Race Smart at Playitas Resort
Canary Islands · 5 days
The camp runs 31 August to 4 September at Playitas Resort, and it's capped around the HYROX race format. Mornings typically start with a coached session — think compromised running, station practice, or pacing work — and you'll get feedback on how to manage your effort across the eight stations and the runs in between. Hugo Hugemark leads the week as Playitas ambassador, and his brief is race-specific preparation: how to pace, how to strategize, how to perform when it matters. You're not just doing burpee broad jumps for the sake of it; you're learning where to push and where to hold back.
What makes this different from a standard HYROX camp is the shift away from maximum training load. Plenty of camps will bury you in volume. This one is built around arriving at the start line with a clear plan — knowing your splits, your station transitions, and your backup plan if something goes sideways. If you're racing HYROX Tenerife, that's the immediate target, but the same approach applies to any race later in the season.
The schedule is structured but not relentless. You'll have access to the resort's training facilities — the sort of setup that makes Playitas a base for pro teams and age-group athletes alike — and there's time built in to eat, rest, and actually absorb the coaching. The camp is added per participant when you book, so you sort your room and board first, then bolt on the HYROX week.
Fuerteventura in early September is hot and bright, with the trade winds that make it a windsurfing and kiting destination. That means you'll be training in real heat, which is its own kind of preparation if your race is somewhere warm. The resort itself is in Las Playitas on the east coast, a low-key fishing village with a handful of restaurants and a black-sand beach, about 15 minutes from the airport.
This camp suits people who already have a HYROX race on the calendar or are seriously considering one. You don't need to be elite, but you should be comfortable with the movements — sled push and pull, burpee broad jumps, rowing, skiing, farmers carry, sandbag lunges, wall balls — and able to run 1km repeats. The coaching assumes you know the basics and want to sharpen the race-day execution.
