HYROX Training Retreat at Maraleina Sports Resort, Koh Samui

Koh Samui · 7 days · From USD 1200

HYROX is a race format rather than a class: you run 1km, complete a functional station, and repeat that cycle eight times. The full distance is 8km of running and eight stations. Races run to a global standard, so your time is comparable wherever you race, and there are Open, Pro, Doubles, Relay and Adaptive categories. Training for it means building both your running and your station work — sled pushes and pulls, burpee broad jumps, rowing, skiing, farmers carries and the like.

At Maraleina Sports Resort, HYROX training classes are being added to the gym schedule from March 2025. The resort has a fully equipped gym, a high-performance training center and extensive fitness spaces. The stated plan is that classes build the strength, endurance and confidence needed for HYROX, and the resort also intends to host mini HYROX events so people can test themselves in a supportive setting before racing for real.

Coaching on site covers more than HYROX. Chantelle McCreight-Devalia is a Canadian-trained physiotherapist and CSEP-certified personal trainer who has worked in fitness and rehab since 2010. She holds TRX, kettlebell and APPI Pilates Mat certifications, teaches cycle classes, and works with everyone from office workers to athletes, with a particular focus on running programs and functional strength. If you want your running gait or a niggling injury looked at during your stay, that's her area.

Moo Phumsawat is a certified meditation trainer, 200-hour Yoga Alliance yoga teacher, ACSM-certified rehabilitation specialist, NSCA strength and conditioning specialist, and longevity training expert. He spent five years as a monk and has over 18 years of meditation experience. He also trained in traditional Thai massage at the Wat Pho school. In practice this means a week can combine strength and conditioning sessions with yoga, meditation and massage, which is useful when you're putting in serious training volume.

Maraleina is on Koh Samui in Thailand, and the resort's own amenities are part of the setup — you train, then recover without leaving the property. Note that HYROX competition itself has an age minimum of 16, and Adaptive categories exist for athletes with physical or neurological impairments, so the race format is more accessible than it first looks.
