Jam Camp Beach Sports Week in Basilicata, Southern Italy

A typical day at Jam Camp is built around training blocks. The camp adds a dedicated sports arena to the resort's existing pitches, and two physiotherapy stations sit right next to it so you can get treated between sessions. A medical room staffed by two doctors runs 24 hours a day for the duration of the camp, with recovery rooms and a kids' office alongside.

The resort itself supplies the rest of the facilities: an Olympic-size pool for adults, two children's pools, tennis, five-a-side football, basketball, volleyball and beach volleyball courts, archery, a spa and wellness centre, a restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating, poolside bars and wi-fi in the common areas. The private beach is white, fine sand with clear water, reached on foot through the pine forest or by the resort's eco shuttle, and it comes with umbrellas, sun loungers and beach volleyball courts at no extra cost.

What separates this from a single-discipline fitness week is the breadth: you are not locked into one sport. The camp is set up for people who want to play and train across several sports in a day, with coaching, physio and medical cover all on site rather than a short drive away.

Off the sand, the surrounding Metapontino coast is worth a day: Metaponto and its beaches, Marina di Pisticci with the Porto degli Argonauti, Lido di Policoro, Marinagri, and the beaches at Marina di Rotondella and Marina di Nova Siri. Inland, Matera and its UNESCO-listed Sassi are the obvious trip, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world.
