Jungle Digital Detox Retreat in Tulum for One or Two

Jungle Digital Detox Retreat in Tulum for One or Two

Mexico · 3 days · From EUR 1760

Lena and Olga run this retreat from Alma Chakana, a house they built in the jungle in the Francisco Uh May area, about 45 minutes from Tulum International Airport (TQO) and roughly 1 hour 45 minutes from Cancun (CUN). Private transfers from either airport are included with a driver they've worked with for years. Check-in is at 1pm and check-out is at 1pm, both flexible enough to fit your flights. Before you fly, there is a confidential call — they ask how you've actually been using your phone, what you want from the quiet, and how long you're staying. Three days is the default, and they quote longer stays on the call. If they think you need a slower medical route instead, they say so.

The first evening is plain on purpose. They ask what you want to do with the phone, they feed you, and they leave you alone. Some guests hand it over for the stay, some keep it for one call a day, some keep it in a pocket and simply stop reaching for it. All three are fine. The first night is usually the longest sleep guests have had in months. From day two, the days keep one shape: practice in the morning, breakfast, a long middle with nothing in it — the pool, the hammock, a paper book, a walk to the edge of the ground, or a two-hour nap. One session in the late afternoon, dinner, then bed whenever you're ready. The temazcal is held on the second evening. Most guests call the second afternoon the difficult one — the boredom arrives, and then it lifts, and what sits underneath it is usually what they came for.

There are two facilitators. Dr. Lena is a Certified Nutritional Practitioner (Canada, 2012) and a Certified Hatha Yoga Teacher through Sri Dharma Mittra's Life of a Yogi 200-hour programme in NYC (2010), with additional certifications in Tantra Kriya Yoga, sound healing, Reiki and psychedelic medicine facilitation. She spent years running private clinical practices as a holistic nutritionist in Canada, the USA and Mexico. Olga studied under Sri Dharma Mittra in New York and served for nearly a decade at the Karma Triyana Dharmachakra Monastery, including a three-and-a-half-year sealed retreat and a twelve-month solitary silent meditation retreat. She's a Registered Dharma Yoga Teacher (200-hour and 500-hour) and trained at the Barbara Brennan School of Healing. Between them there's close to forty years of practice and teaching.

The cooking is part of the retreat rather than a break from it. Lena and Olga are both trained in holistic nutrition and cook whole food from the market and local growers — mostly plant-based, no processed ingredients. Breakfast whenever you surface, lunch by the pool, dinner at the table with candles. Portions are generous and nobody counts what you take. If you'd rather eat alone on your last night, that's fine.

The property is deliberately isolated. Traffic, town and notifications are all somewhere else, and the quiet arrives faster than guests expect. The wifi works (Starlink) and the phone signal works — nothing beeps at you unless you decide it should. Nearby you can visit the Tulum beaches, the cenotes, the Mayan ruins and Azulik, or book a spa visit, but most people don't leave the property during a three-day stay. Optional add-ons include extra nights before or after, a Mayan clay spa package, holistic or Thai massage, and the temazcal.
