Jungle Wellness Week: Yoga, Balinese Healing & Rainforest Relaxation in Tabanan

Indonesia · 7 days · From USD 1152

Bali Palms sits in Laleng village, Tabanan Regency, in what locals call the 'rice bowl' of Bali. The property is surrounded by jungle, rivers, and waterfalls rather than beach clubs and traffic. This is the part of Bali that existed before Instagram, and the retreat leans into that: traditional bamboo and brick cabins, open-air dining, and a pace that lets you actually rest.

The yoga here is vinyasa flow, taught twice daily by Eli, a Balinese instructor who's been practising for over a decade. She trained with both Balinese and Indian teachers in yoga, meditation, and energy work. Classes happen on an ironwood deck looking out over the forest — beginners, intermediate, and advanced practitioners all attend the same sessions, with modifications offered. The meditation portions are woven into the yoga rather than being separate hour-long sits.

What sets this retreat apart from a generic yoga holiday is the Balinese healing component. On Day 2, you'll participate in a Melukat ceremony — a traditional water purification ritual conducted at a local temple or spring. Day 3 brings a five-element energy healing session with a local practitioner. Day 5 includes sound healing. These aren't demonstrations for tourists; they're working ceremonies that Balinese people actually use, led by practitioners who do this for their own community.

The property itself is designed for privacy. Each cabin is spaced out from the others, with its own terrace facing the garden. The semi-outdoor bathrooms — stone-tiled, open to the sky but private — give you that jungle feeling without sacrificing comfort. There's a pool, a river nearby, bicycles you can rent, and hiking in the surrounding area. The nearest village is walkable if you want to explore.

Meals are substantial: tropical fruit and smoothies at breakfast, seasonal soups and rice dishes at lunch and dinner, Balinese desserts, and complimentary fruit, tea, and coffee available all day. They cater to vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free, halal, and various allergy needs — just flag yours when booking.

This retreat works well for people who want structure without intensity. You're not doing three hours of yoga a day or waking at 5am for mandatory meditation. The schedule gives you two yoga sessions, one main healing activity, and plenty of unscheduled time. It's a rest week with movement and local culture built in, not a fitness boot camp.
