Home › Retreats › Kids' Summer Surf Camp in 's-Gravenzande, Netherlands (Ages 12-15)
Netherlands · 7 days · From EUR 689
The week is built around the water. For five days straight, participants get two hours of surf instruction daily, plus supervised free surf time when conditions allow. Lessons start on the beach with theory on how the sea, waves and currents work, then move into the water to practise standing up and balancing. Boards are soft-top beginner boards with flexible rubber fins, sized to each participant's height and weight, and wetsuits are provided in a range of sizes. The instructors are certified, hold lifeguard diplomas, and include the number 1 surfer in the Netherlands.
's-Gravenzande was chosen for the waves: they are long and the seabed is fine sand, which makes it a forgiving place to learn. The camp itself is set up on a campsite a 15-minute bike ride from the beach. There is a recreation tent with lounge sofas, a chill corner with hammocks and Fatboys, a table tennis table, a field for outdoor games, and mobile charging points.
Afternoons and evenings fill up with other activities. Bodyboarding gives a less tiring way to stay in the water, and longboarding on the smooth asphalt paths around the campsite mimics the movements of surfing. Indoboarding — balancing on a small board on a roller — is the warm-up professional surfers use. Powerkiting teaches kite control on windy beach days, and archery tag and bubble football are team games. There is also time to simply swim, play beach volleyball or sit in the sun, with tour leaders organising games for anyone at a loose end.
The week ends with the Vinea Surf Contest, a competition among the participants, followed by a beach party with music and drinks. Meals are breakfast, lunch and dinner on site, with unlimited drinks, fresh fruit and snacks through the day. The stated aim is that with steady practice most participants are riding waves by the end of the week.
This is a camp for kids travelling without their parents. Tour leaders are present around the clock, and the booking form asks for parents' contact details, an emergency phone number, dietary needs and any medication use. The camp runs for seven weeks across the 2026 summer holidays.
